Baking soda has many uses at home

The kitchen stove is greasy, the unpleasant smell in the baby bottle can’t be washed off, the clothes washed in the washing machine are getting dirtier and dirtier, and the toilet drain hole seems to be a little clogged… What should we do about these? Today, the editor of Life Tips Network will share tips. In fact, all problems can be solved with “baking soda”!

Baking soda, also known as “baking soda”, has a chemical name of “sodium bicarbonate” or sodium bicarbonate. It is a white alkaline powder that is easily soluble in water. It begins to gradually decompose to form sodium carbonate, carbon dioxide and water above 50°C, and completely decomposes at 270°C. Sodium bicarbonate is an acid salt generated by the neutralization of strong alkali and weak acid, and it is weakly alkaline when dissolved in water.

Since baking soda can decompose naturally, is non-toxic, does not pollute the environment, and does not irritate the skin, it is a pure natural substance and can be safely used in food and household cleaning.

Baking soda cleaning tips:

1. Remove odors

1. Shoe cabinet:

Put 2-3 spoons of baking soda in a small container and put it in the corner of the shoe cabinet. Change it about every 2 months.

2. Trash can:

When changing to a new trash bag, sprinkle a proper amount of baking soda on the bottom first to avoid odors.

3. Refrigerator:

Put a proper amount of baking soda in a small container and put it in the corner of the refrigerator. When the odor appears again, you can change it!

4. Baby bottle:

The residual smell of milk can be removed with baking soda and hot water. Pour 2 spoons of baking soda into the baby bottle, then pour in hot water, shake the baby bottle until the baking soda becomes transparent, leave it for two hours, finally rinse with clean water, and then dry it.

2. Clearing blockages

1. Toilet drain hole:

Drain holes may be blocked by fallen hair. At this time, the deodorized baking soda can be reused! Sprinkle baking soda around the drain hole, and then use hot water to dissolve the baking soda and flow into the drain hole.

2. Sink and sink drain holes:

Sometimes, sinks or sinks may be blocked by food residues. At this time, you can also sprinkle baking soda around the drain hole, and then use hot water to dissolve the baking soda and flow into the drain hole.

3. Degreasing

1. Kitchen windows:

Because of oil smoke, kitchen windows are always greasy. Just spray baking soda water on the kitchen windows (the ratio of baking soda to water is 1:20-30), then cover them with a layer of plastic wrap, and after 10-15 minutes, tear off the plastic wrap, and finally wipe the windows with a dry rag to reduce the greasy feeling of the windows!
2. Oil screen of range hood: Taiwanese dishes are usually stir-fried over high heat, so the oil stains on the range hood will be obvious. Just wrap the kitchen paper towel around the oil screen of the range hood after removing it, and then spray it with baking soda water. After 10-15 minutes, you can take the paper towel off and wipe it with the paper towel, and you’re done!

4. Dehumidification

1. Wardrobe: Put about 2-3 spoons of baking soda in a small container and put it in the corner of the wardrobe. Replace it about every 2 months.

2. Wooden cabinet or iron cabinet: Put about 2-3 spoons of baking soda in a small container and put it in the corner of the cabinet. Replace it about every 2 months.

5. Cleaning

1. Microwave oven:

Prepare a cup or microwave container, put about 1 spoon of baking soda in it, add a quarter cup of water, put the container in the microwave for 2 minutes, use the volatilization method to let the microwave remove odors and achieve the cleaning effect, and finally wipe it dry with a semi-wet rag or sponge.

2. Scale on the sink and mirror:

There will often be residual scale on the faucet or mirror. Just use a slightly damp rag to dip baking soda and wipe the surrounding area, then wipe it with a dry rag, and the scale will disappear!

3. Washing machine:

Fill the washing tub with water, pour in baking soda, start running according to the usual washing steps, soak in water for four hours, clean the dirt attached to it, then drain the water and rinse it clean, so that the washing tub is clean!

4. Tableware:

How to deal with oxidized tableware? Soak it in baking soda and water for half an hour, rinse it clean and wipe it dry.
5. Collars and cuffs: Sometimes the washing machine can’t clean the dirty collars or cuffs. In this case, just sprinkle baking soda on the dirty area, soak for about half an hour, scrub it, and then put it in the washing machine to easily remove the dirt.

Items not suitable for using baking soda

1. Aluminum products: It will make the surface black and dark, so aluminum pots cannot be cleaned with baking soda.

2. Tatami mats/straw mats: Tatami mats containing protein will turn yellow when exposed to baking soda.

Precautions for using baking soda:

1. When using, please distinguish whether it is edible or industrial baking soda.

2. Be careful not to use too much baking soda for baking or personal beauty cleaning. Adding too much baking soda will destroy the flavor of the food or cause too strong alkaline taste. After eating, people will have symptoms such as palpitations, numb lips, and temporary loss of taste.
